Pillow please!

I went in to get Elly from her morning nap the other day and this is what I found! She started out "longways" on the other end of the crib, barrel-rolled to the other side and made herself a nice little pillow out of the bumper pad. This has now become her favorite napping pastime! Well...that AND grabbing the little fairies by their little toes and giving them a good shake. I guess that means it is time for the mobile to go. She loves that thing so much, that I have been putting off taking it down. She will be sad to see it go, but mommy would be even sadder if she walked in to find the overpriced, Pottery Barn Kids mobile, snapped in half with dead fairies strewn around the crib ;)

I'm just chillin' in my crib

Hmmm...which one of you will go first? That new TOOTH I have will make it easier to rip you all apart!

**You read right...I found Elly's first tooth this morning (bottom left)! She has been a little stinker the past few days and we had a feeling that a tooth may be making an appearance :)

HARVEST Moon Festival

I stand corrected from my last post...It was the Harvest Moon Festival, not the Full Moon Festival, that we enjoyed last weekend with Nana! I actually don't have any pictures from the festival itself (oops!) but I do have some from the fun filled day. We started our day at my parents house, where my mom had an oldie but goodie "new" (gotta love the neighborhood garage sale!) toy for Ellyson! She was quite intrigued by the loops, climbs and falls of the oh so pretty beads. She looked at, studied and grabbed them, but inevitably she did all that she could to make sure they ended up in her mouth :) We made our way to the square in downtown Granbury, where we walked around the tents and of course bought a few teeny bows for our teeny girl. We then made our way to Hank's for a little lunch. I enjoyed a turkey sandwich, my mom enjoyed her BLT and Elly...enjoyed her toes AND her new found freedom in a restaurant highchair!!!! She looked at, studied and grabbed the straps, but inevitably she did all that she could to make sure she got her mouth on it...Eeeeewwwww! Oh the oral fixation of this girl!

Mmmmm...the orange ones taste like pumpkin pie!

Mmmm...my toes taste like chicken!

How do I best go about getting this in my mouth? I bet it tastes like the flu AND cold virus all rolled into one!
*time to break out the shopping cart cover from Auntie Caroline! This mommy is one HUGE germ-a-phobe!

7 months

It's a little late, but here it is..Elly's 7 month blog post! I don't really have much new to post on. Cutie girl is really starting to show that personality of hers! We have lots of giggles and LOTS of talking. The speech therapist in me, notices every sound that comes out of her sweet little mouth. She will ramble on "da, da, da, ga, ga, ta, ta, ba!" With such excitement I inform Kris, "Listen! She is using her bilabials...alveolars...velars!" He looks at me like I am a crazy lady. I tell him, it's a speech thing...you wouldn't understand :)

Check out my bow! It's actually in my hair...and stays in place!

**Stay tuned for pictures from the Full Moon Festival we took in with Nana last weekend! Elly had a big "first" moment during our lunch. You will have to wait to see what it was :)

Apple Pie anyone?

I have had a few requests for my yummy, yummy apple pie recipe! So...here it is (with the appropriate credit of course!).

Before I got married, my mom's dear friend, Donna Christman, threw me a bridal shower out in Granbury. One of their friends, Connie Angel, gave me the most wonderful gift...her favorite recipes! The 'Harvest Table Apple Pie With Delicious Crunchy Nut Topping' was one of them. It has now become a staple at the Berry/Coyle holiday's!

Pastry for two pie crust

FILLING:
6-8 medium apples
2 T cornstarch
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
3 T sugar
3 T melted butter or margarine
1/3 C Karo Blue Label Syrup
TOPPING:
1/4 C brown sugar
2 T flour
3 T Karo Blue Label Syrup
2 T softened margarine or butter
1/4 C chopped pecans or walnuts

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Prepare crust.

Fill bottom shell with peeled and sliced apples. In a separate bowl, combine cornstarch, cinnamon, salt, sugar, margarine and Karo syrup. Pour over apples. Cover with top crust and bake for approximately 30-35 mins. or until crust is brown and apples almost tender.

Before removing from oven, make topping by mixing brown sugar, flour, syrup, margarine and nuts. Pour over top of hot pie when removed from the oven. Place pie pan on a larger pan or foil to catch topping that may run off. Return to oven for about 3-5 mins. or until topping is bubbly.

Makes 1 (9 inch) pie.

ENJOY!!!
Hey mom! I think I'm ready to try some apple pie!
